Student-centric learning refers to a wide variety of educational programs, instructional techniques, and academic-support strategies which are employed to address the unique learning needs of students on an individual basis. These specific learning strategies also take students' interests, aspirations and cultural backgrounds into account. To accomplish this goal, teachers, credentialed school counselors, and other educational specialists utilize a wide variety of educational supports and also work collaboratively with each student's parents/guardian to set goals. Members of this student success team, advocate and support each student's individual needs and guide students towards reaching their goals. |
F.R.E.S.H. S.T.A.R.T.S. - A Clinical Research StudyThe Glen Mills Schools has entered into collaboration with entities to ensure that our trauma-informed program design is making a positive, measurable impact. Dr. Stevie Grassetti, a licensed clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor at West Chester University, and will conduct a clinical research study to examine the implementation of tiered trauma supports for teens. As part of this research, Dr. Grassetti and her team will be providing behavioral health screens to identify Post-Traumatic Symptoms (PTS) in the youth we serve. Her team will deliver Tiered Therapeutic Supports (TTS), including Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) group therapy to students who show PTS symptoms. They will also deliver individual Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy to students who do not show a reduction in PTS symptoms with CBITS. Dr. Grassetti will conduct trainings with our staff on understanding the impact of trauma, PTSD, and delivering compassionate trauma-informed support.

Dr. Stevie Grassetti of West Chester University will be conducting a research study with our students called FRESH STARTS. One objective is to advance our scientific understanding about how to best treat traumatic stress among undeserved youth.
