The Glen Mills Schools–Alternative Education Program is an academic day-program operated on the campus of the Glen Mills Schools, which is designed to provide a new educational experience for students who have had significant difficulties in previous school placements. The mission statement of the Glen Mills Schools–Alternative Education Program is to change a student’s inappropriate behavior to pro-social and to develop the life skills necessary to sustain this change. We believe that every student has potential and personal endowment, which can be developed in a school setting that is structured, supportive, and respectful, thus allowing for a learning environment that is conducive for all students to achieve success.
Students will receive a high school academic education, within a structured behavior management program, which includes a peer managed integration system. It is the goal of the Glen Mills Schools–Alternative Education Program to help each student develop the academic and behavioral skills necessary to reach his full potential and foster success in school.
The program operates on a school calendar of 184 student days, with daily program hours being Monday–Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily, with a breakfast upon arrival and lunch at mid-day. The Glen Mills Schools-Alternative Education Program can also provide an Extended School Year (ESY) for students that require a summer program. Transportation is the responsibility of the school district.
It is understood that success cannot be guaranteed and may be different for each student. However, students who have good attendance, who set and achieve reasonable goals and correct inappropriate behaviors, will have the opportunity to successfully transition from the program, such as returning to their home school, completing graduation requirements, earning grade level promotions, restoring credits, gaining admission to higher education, finding employment, just to name a few.
The Glen Mills Schools–Alternative Education Program is committed to helping students gain respect for themselves and others, develop an awareness of their own potential, and form a more positive outlook on their future.
The Glen Mills Schools–Alternative Education Program provides an opportunity for students to experience success and to use this success to build a brighter future.
