The
Glen Mills Schools is a private, residential school for
court adjudicated male delinquents between 15 and 18 years
of age.
Founded in 1826 as the Philadelphia House of Refuge,
the Schools has provided services continuously for one
hundred and seventy-two years and is the oldest existing
school of its type in the United States. Located in Delaware
County, Pennsylvania and situated on nearly eight hundred
acres, it has been at its present location for over one
hundred years.
The Schools Board of Managers selected Cosimo D. Ferrainola
as Executive Director in 1975 to implement his innovative
program. Under his administration, the Schools has grown
from a student population of less than one hundred to
an internationally known and respected program providing
services to more than one thousand students. . Cosimo D. Ferrainola retired from the school in November 2007.
On November 15, 2007, The Board of Directors selected Garrison “Garry” D. Ipock, Jr. to replace Cosimo D. Ferrainola as Executive Director of the Glen Mills Schools. Mr. Ipock has been an employee of the Glen Mills Schools since 1971. His previous position was Managing Director. Mr. Ipock plans to continue with the model that has made the Glen Mills Schools one of the finest schools in the nation.
